“Is Arsenal’s dream about to die?”

Nature can be so cruel—lifting you to great heights whenever it pleases, only to bring you crashing down just as suddenly. It feels like Arsenal F.C. are going through that same cruel twist of fate. The team that started the season in flying form is now struggling just to win matches.
Yet even a month ago, the picture was completely different. Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal were dominating across all competitions, showcasing their full potential. With a solid defensive unit, Arteta’s side had made scoring against them extremely difficult. Despite such a strong start, their rhythm suddenly collapsed. It began with a 2–0 defeat to Manchester City F.C. in the EFL Cup final. Before they could recover from that blow, they were knocked out of the FA Cup in the quarterfinals by Southampton F.C. a comparatively weaker side. That loss seems to have had a ripple effect everywhere.
In the Premier League, two consecutive defeats have reduced their lead over Manchester City to just three points, after once being nine points clear. Arsenal have five matches remaining, while City still have six. If both teams win all their remaining games, the title could be decided on goal difference. In that scenario, City arguably have the easier fixtures.

The impact is now visible in the UEFA Champions League as well. In the quarterfinals, Arsenal scraped through against Sporting CP—winning 1–0 away but managing only a hard-fought 0–0 draw at home to reach the semifinals. However, their underwhelming performance has raised concerns among fans. Many believe they will struggle against the in-form Atlético Madrid in the semifinals. Even if they make it to the final, they could face either Paris Saint-Germain F.C. or FC Bayern Munich—both among Europe’s most dominant teams. It’s fair to say that winning the Champions League now looks like a very tough challenge for Arsenal.
Just days ago, everything seemed within reach; now it feels like a game of light and shadow. Time will tell whether Arsenal can bounce back to win both the Premier League and the Champions League, or if Arteta’s side will leave fans disappointed with yet another trophyless season.
